Richard R. Harmon, 85, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Transitions in Sykesville.

Born March 14, 1928, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Elsie C. Polson Harmon and John A. Harmon. He was the husband of Geraldine Blizzard Harmon.

Before retiring he worked as a carpenter for Morrow Brothers. He served in the Army as a corporal in the South Pacific and was stationed on the island of Louzon. He also served in Manila in the 4th Field Artillery.

He was a member of VFW Molleville Post No. 467 and American Legion Carroll Post No. 31.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Ginny Hooper and Paul Jr.; grandson Jamey Hooper and wife Karen; a great-granddaughter, Savannah; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, John Leroy Harmon; brothers Wilber, George and John Harmon; and sisters Ruth Steinberg, Edna Virtz and Catherine Payton.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, with Deacon Charlie Barnhart officiating. Interment will follow in St. Luke's (Winters) Cemetery in New Windsor.
