Richard S. "Dick" Murray, 83, of Hampstead, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born July 10, 1928, in Hampstead, he was the son of the late John Wilbur and Edith Fuhrman Murray. He was the husband of the late Shirley Bankert Murray and was the longtime companion of Betty Rohde of Hampstead.

He was a graduate of Hampstead High School and of the University of Baltimore. He served in the United States Navy. He was a retired sales professional for 3M.

He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hampstead for more than 50 years, the Hampstead Lions club for more than 60 years, and the Hampstead volunteer fire company for 65 years.

Surviving are sons Jeffrey N. Murray and wife Renee B., of Acworth, Ga., J. Stanley Murray and wife Chris, of Finksburg; daughter Amy M. Johnson and husband Steven T., of Hampstead; grandchildren Ashleigh M. Poplin, Brett, Bryan and Brittany Johnson, and Mackenzie, Tyler and Adam Murray; great-grandchildren Kasen, Kohen and Kashton Poplin; and a brother, Dr. James Murray, of Ocean City.

He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1373 N. Main St., Hampstead, with the Rev. George Tuttle officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.
