Richard Showalter, 56, of Graniteville, S.C., formerly of Westminster, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of Lola Showalter, of Everett, Pa., and the late David Albert Showalter. He was the husband of Susan Showalter, his wife of 37 years.

He had been a resident of Westminster for many years. He was a resident of Culpeper, Va., prior to coming to Graniteville, S.C., in 2009.

His career as an Air Traffic Controller began in the Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work in the same capacity with the Federal Aviation Administration. He had a passion for flying and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Susan enjoyed taking their dog Ziggy for walks.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are daughter Mary Elizabeth and husband Imran Chatriwala, of Stuttgart, Germany; grandchildren Dorothy Alice and Elyas Imran, of Stuttgart, Germany; and siblings Virginia Zile, of Westminster, Jane Black and Tammie Dicken, both of Everett, Pa., and David Showalter, of DeBary, Fla.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and services will be private.
