Robert Edward "Bob" Porterfield, 76, of Hampstead, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born July 26, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Raymond S. and Ruth Saum Porterfield. He was the husband of Joan Elizabeth Hoffman, to whom he was married for 55 years.

He was of the Methodist faith and had attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead. He graduated from Hampstead High School and Rochester Institute of Technology.

He owned and operated Porterfield's Photography for 39 years on Main Street in Westminster. He was active in Boy Scouts and a member of Lebanon No. 175 AF&AM Masonic Lodge in Manchester. His hobbies were stamp collecting and model railroading. He authored three books, "Photographers of Carroll County 1840-1940," "Hampstead The way it was," and "Westminster The way it was."

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Tim Porterfield and wife Josie Baust, and Toby Porterfield and wife Susannah Toedter; and grandsons Josh and Nick Porterfield.

Per his wishes, he was cremated and there will be no viewing. Service and interment will be private.
