Mr. Robert Floyd Burleson, age 90, a recent resident of Lorien Taneytown and formerly of New Windsor, died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Lorien Taneytown. Born September 26, 1924 in Senia, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Hugh Herman Burleson and Hallie Beatrice Billings Burleson. He was the husband of Jean Adkins Burleson, who predeceased him in 1984. Mr. Burleson was the fourth generation on the family farm and moved as a young adult with his parents to a farm on Hawks Hill. Robert was a graduate of Appalachian State College. He served in the Army Air Force with the 83rd Airdrome Squadron during World War II, seeing action in the European Theater. He landed on Utah Beach, Normandy D Day plus 6. He also served from 1964 - 1968 as a sergeant with the Maryland National Guard at the Fifth Regiment Armory. He was employed as an industrial engineer, first with Glenn L. Martin which became Martin Marietta, and later as a section supervisor with Fairchild Republic. He was instrumental in the manufacture of the first lunar landing module. He was a member of the New Windsor Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and previously the Parkville Baptist Church. He enjoyed daily Bible reading, hunting, history, farming, gardening, current events and animals He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Burleson Schuster of New Windsor; granddaughter, Rachael Emilijean Schuster and fiancé Walker Wright of Connecticut; and sisters, Dixie Rodgers and Ruby Preston of Baltimore and Linda Rae Howe of Florida. He was predeceased by sisters, Roxie Brady and Lucy Alderman. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with his pastor, Rev. H. Paul Matthews III, officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens, Baltimore. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 8 and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
