Robert Lee "Bob" Green Jr., age 96, of Union Bridge, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Carroll Hospital Center, following an illness of six weeks. Born Dec. 12, 1919 in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Robert L. Green Sr. and Edna Blaxston Green. Twice married, his first wife was the late Ruthanna Pittinger Green. His second wife, of 22 years, was Barbara Green. Mr. Green attended Linwood School. He was a lifelong member of Linwood Brethren Church, where he held numerous positions. He was formerly employed with Thurmont Cooperative, Union Bridge, for 25 years, and then with Carroll County Board of Education for 14 years, working at Elmer Wolfe Elementary School and retiring in 1984. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Bob was a friend to everyone he met. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Lewis Green and wife Diane, and Fred Green Sr. and wife Debbie, all of Union Bridge; stepchildren, Robin Turner, Kimberly Koomler, Cathy Whitmore, Lori Hitt, and David Stambaugh, all of Charlestown, WV; grandsons, Michael Green, Brian Green, Jamie Green, Chad Green and Fred Green Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Reba Utermahlen of Parkville; special niece, Debbie Sutphin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters; three brothers; and a stepdaughter, Debbie Sandbower. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, on Wednesday, May 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. Rev. Dan Ceary, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.
