Robert Milton "Bob" Shaw, 82, Crownsville, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at home, on the Severn River.

Born Nov. 13, 1930, in St Louis, Mo., he was the son of the late Luther and Irene Shaw. He was the husband of Ruth Townsend Shaw, who he married June 3, 1971.

He attended Washington University and received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. After graduation, he was recruited and worked as an engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel. In 1980 he founded Spring Valley Laboratories, located in Woodbine, and served as president for more than 30 years.

An avid sailor, he resided in Crownsville for more than 10 years and was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Robyn Elaine Shaw and Amy Shaw Dyke; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Wayne Townsend; a son-in-law, Hans Peter Dyke; and grandchildren Addison Shaw Dyke, Charles Robert Dyke, and William Townsend Dyke.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis.

A funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. Interment will be in Lorraine Park Cemetery, 5608 Dogwood Road, Baltimore.
