Robert Raymond Poist, age 75, of Hampstead, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born October 19, 1942, in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Edward Poist and Helen Jenkins Poist. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Deanna Raye Hoover Poist. Robert had worked as a plumber for most of his life and was a member of Steamfitters Local #602. He was a life long volunteer fireman. Robert was a lifetime member of Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department where he was the recipient of their first Fireman of the Year Award in 1968. He was also a volunteer with Winfield and Hampstead Volunteer Fire Departments. Robert was a coach for his children's sports teams over the years and was always there to support his family in everything they did. He was also a classic car enthusiast. Most importantly he loved his wife, Deanna and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Debi Poist of Hampstead, daughter and son-in-law, Tina M. and David Duncan of Hanover, PA; brother, Timothy G. Poist of LA and sisters, Phyllis "Jessie" Baldwin and Jennifer Lee both of Hanover, PA; grandchildren: Christopher Duncan, Shannon Stargel and Brittany, Ashton and Mackenzie Poist and great-grandchildren: Malorie, Aubrie and Natalie Stargel. He was predeceased by siblings: Allen and Edward "Foxy" Poist, Audrey McDonaldson, Joanie Muroka and Shirley Clark. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1pm. Officiating will be Pastor Reed Robinette. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Integrace Institute at Copper Ridge, 710 Obrecht Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
