Robert T. "Bob" Sedlak, 77, of the Pleasant Valley area, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, June 18th, after a brief illness. Bob was born in Plattsburgh, NY, but spent most of his childhood in Schenectady, NY. He was the son of Lt. Col. Anthony Sedlak and Marion N. Sedlak. He was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Schenectady, and a 1962 graduate of Syracuse University. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay MacArthur Sedlak; daughter Jennifer M. and husband William Russell of Silver Run; son Robert A. Sedlak and wife Beth of Scranton, PA and their three daughters; son Matthew T. Sedlak, his three sons, his wife Melissa, and her son and daughter. Bob was a devoted and involved father and grandfather. He was an Eagle Scout, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General in 1995 after 30 years of service to the federal government. Bob was an NRA member; in the 1970s he won several state and regional International Skeet titles and he was invited to the 1976 Olympic trials. He was a lifelong lover of nature, voracious reader, and tireless grammarian. During his retirement, he enjoyed racing vintage cars and fly fishing in the Yellow Breeches. His love and respect for all living things was legendary. He routinely stopped to help turtles cross the road and gently took spiders outside. He loved cats, in particular cats who were down on their luck or elderly. He loved his family and our life together more than anything else. The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester (21102), with a Requiem Mass celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, Historic Church, 2940 Park Avenue, Manchester with the Rev. Fr. Michael Roach as celebrant. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley. In lieu of flowers, Bob would have been pleased by donations to the animal rescue .
