Robert W. Rimbey Sr., 69, of Mount Airy, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at NMS Healthcare in Hagerstown.

Born July 6, 1944, in Maryland, he was the son of the late William L. and Mary R. Buckman Rimbey. He was the husband of Barbara Jean Raby Rimbey, who died in 2010.

He was a 1962 graduate of Mount Airy High School. He served in the Navy from 1963 until 1967 on the USS Claude Jones. He was the former owner and operator of Food Rite Groceteria in Mount Airy. In 2005, he and his family sold the business and retired. 

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, antique cars, Diet Coke and word searches, and he was a jack of all trades.

He was known to be kind and generous, always helping others with his talents. He tried to find humor in every situation and enjoyed making people smile.

Surviving are daughter Robin Lynn Shriner and husband Mike, of Hagerstown; sons Robert W. "Bill" Rimbey Jr. and wife Celeste, of Hagerstown, and Joseph A. Rimbey, of Mount Airy; and grandchildren Ashley Rimbey, Madison Lewis, Conner Shriner, Jonathan Shriner, Stephen Shriner, Makaela Rimbey, Lucas Rimbey, Britny Brashear and Jackson Shriner.

He was predeceased by a sister, Rebecca F. Shaw.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Road, Mount Airy. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Maryland, 200 East Joppa Road, Suite 407, Towson, MD 21286.
