Roland William Green, 85, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Lorien of Mount Airy.

Born July 16, 1928, in Washington County, he was the son of the late John E. Green and the late Mary Evea Fry Green. He was the husband of Beverly Ruth Gordon Green, his wife of 62 years.

He was a letter carrier for 35 years with the United States Postal Service at Branch 26 Silver Spring. He was a member for 55 years of Union Branch No. 2611 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, of which he served as treasurer for 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

He received the Carroll County Senior Volunteer of the Year award in 2007. He was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, past treasurer of Prudence Lodge 190 A.F. and A.M. in Mount Airy for more than 30 years, a member of Commandery, Scottish Rite, Shriners and Keystone Kops.

He enjoyed gardening and mowing grass. He was a member of Mount Airy 55 Plus Club and also Mount Airy Senior Center

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Karen Green, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; son and daughter-in-law Brian Green and Elaine Malcom, of Eldersburg; grandsons John Morris Green, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Kevin Stewart Green, of New York; and step-grandsons Patrick, Colin and Sean McLeod.

He was predeceased by brothers Elwood, Paul D., Earl M. and Ralph P. Green; twin sister Ruth Catherine Green and sister Florence Green McBride Poole; and daughter-in-law Kathryn Green.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jennings Chapel Cemetery in Woodbine.
