Ronald Dale "Ron" Guthrie, 75, of New Midway, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at home.

Born Jan. 7, 1937, in Bayard, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Margaret Dunithan Guthrie. He was the husband of Mary Bostian Guthrie, his wife of 26 years.

His family left West Virginia when he was 15 and moved to Baltimore where his father worked. He held various jobs as a teen to help support his parents while he went to school. He graduated from Dundalk High School in 1955.

After high school, he worked for Fleming and Sheeley, a home improvement company. He later opened Ron's Carpet on Market Street in Frederick, a business he owned and operated for six years. After that time, he worked for Montgomery Ward. In 1982, he partnered with his old friend, Jim Cramer, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and they opened and operated Blue Ridge Floors in Jefferson for 20 years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Allan Guthrie and wife Angi, of Omaha, Neb., Karen Hill and husband Charles "Fuzz," of Taneytown, Paula Wivell and husband Dale, of Union Bridge, and Randy Stover and wife Angela, of Middletown; grandchildren Jody Rodkey, of Westminster, Jeremy Rodkey, of McSherrystown, Pa., Jessica Schoenberger, of Hanover, Pa., Derek Guthrie, of Taneytown, Amanda Wivell, of Union Bridge, Hannah and Sarah Stover, both of Middletown, and Stevie Swails and Jakob Morrow, both of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Grace Arthur, of Essex; aunts Helen Roy and Pauline Harvey, both of Bayard; three great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Pat Robinson; and a brother, Douglas Guthrie.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Lester Boleyn, his brother-in-law, and the Rev. James Benedict, his friend, officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery in Woodsboro.
