Rory Pettingill, 24, of New York City, formerly of Westminster, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in New York City.

Born May 8, 1989, in Baltimore, he was the son of Robin Layne Pettingill, of Westminster, and the late Hugh Pettingill.

He was a 2007 graduate of Westminster High School. He worked as a designer and creative strategist for Application Developers Alliance of Washington, D.C.; a light and production assistant for Brad D'Amico Photography of Towson; and was the co-owner and founder of Art-Shape LLC. He was also employed by Tapad of New York. He was a talented guitarist, singer and songwriter, and formerly a member of  local bands Gatsby Gets the Green Light and Apathy Eulogy.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are siblings Julia B. and husband Jason Webster, of Phoenix, Md., Carly E. and Chris Stutz, of Hanover, Pa., Lindsay M. Pettingill, of Washington, D.C., and Daniel M., Haelee D. and Olivia M. Pettingill, all of Westminster; a nephew, Jackson W. Webster; his godparents Stephen and Karen Weiner, of Hampstead; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service, 6 p.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Interment will be private.
