Rosemarie O. Smith, age 80, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, formerly of Indiana, died peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born June 18, 1934 in Hammond, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose J. (Horvath) Ondo. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, John M. O'Connell and is survived by her 2nd husband, James A. Smith. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown. While living in Indiana, she was very active in politics for many years. She worked as a secretary for the Lake County Republican Central Committee. She was an organist at St. Matthias Catholic Church, Crown Point, IN, and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Republican Women's Club. She was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed golfing, ballroom dancing, cruising, and trips to Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed spending time with the Daughters of Charity sisters while living at St. Catherine's in Emmitsburg. She also enjoyed time with family and friends. Surviving are children, Rosemarie O'Connell of Westminster, Nancy Becker and husband Dr. Bruce Becker of Valparaiso, IN, Jacquee Gordon and husband John of Valparaiso, IN, and Timothy O'Connell of Marion, IN; grandchildren, Nicholas Ritchie, Alexis Lajcin, David and Jessica Gordon; great-grandson, Cameron Lajcin. She was Predeceased by a brother, Frank J. Ondo, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Rev. Msgr. Martin E. Feild as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Crown Point, Indiana. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at
