Rosemary Betty Stem, 91, of Glyndon, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born on December 4, 1925 in Garrison, MD, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Sarah Ann (Whitmore) Carter. She was the wife of the late Richard William Stem, Sr. who passed away on August 8, 2016. Her many notable endeavors include when she worked as a crossing guard for the Baltimore County Police; she was also a life member of Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department, Founder of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department, past president of the Glyndon Volunteer F.D. Ladies Auxiliary and the Baltimore County Volunteer F.D. Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving her are children: Richard W. Stem, Jr. and wife Judy of Westminster, MD, Carol Beimschla of Red Lion, PA, Colin Jay Stem and wife Linda of Red Lion, PA, grandchildren: Toni, Jennifer, Richard III, Jimmy, Heather, Timmy & Krissy, and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter: Sarah Ann Stem, and brothers: Henry L. Carter and James R. Carter. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, from 7-9 pm and Friday, January 13, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a memorial service will be held at 8 pm, organized by the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 11 am at the funeral chapel, followed by the interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD 21157. Online condolences may be offered at
