Russell Brown Bankard, 87, of Williamsport, formerly of Westminster, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport.

Born Aug. 12, 1925, near Westminster, he was the son of the late Ulman A. "Ollie" and Annie Brown Bankard. He was the husband of Eva Stitley Hood Bankard, who died Jan. 19, 2002.

He was a 1942 graduate of Westminster High School.  He was a self-employed farmer. He also had been a shipping foreman for Westminster Shoe and worked in the parts department at Farmer Supply Company.

He was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church. He enjoyed chair caning, refinishing furniture, gardening and walking his dog.

Surviving are step-son and wife Edward F. and Joanne Hood, of Hagerstown; and step-grandchildren and spouses Tanya and Travis Starr, of Williamsport, Edward Hood II, of Maine, and Tricia and Warren Strite, of Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. David Schafer, of St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Kriders Cemetery.
