Russell Ernest "Russ" Doehrer Sr., 87, of Finksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at home.

Born Feb. 10, 1926, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of the late Charles George Doehrer and the late Wilma Violet Doehrer. He was the husband of Mildred Carroll Bowman Doehrer, his wife of 42 years.

He was a graduate of Morgan State and member of Phi Beta Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society as well as a graduate of Western Maryland College with a master degree in education.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II. He retired in 1964 as a deputy sheriff from Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. He also retired in 1988 from teaching in Baltimore City. He was a reading specialist at various middle schools and chief executive officer of Doehrer Photography for 20 years.

He was a member of Church of the Open Door and Gideon's International.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Sheila Lynn Blair and Russell Ernest Doehrer Jr., both of California, and Thomas Doehrer, of North Carolina; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Louise Hobbs; and a brother, Charles George Doehrer Jr.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Ray Shutt officiating. Private interment will be held Monday in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
