Ruth Anna LuRae Holbrook, 93, of Hampstead, died on Monday January 5, 2015 at Futurecare-Cherrywood in Reisterstown. Born July 30, 1921 near Hampstead, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel (Whike) Lang. She was the beloved wife of her lifelong sweetheart, the late Joseph Earl Holbrook, Sr.. An avid learner all her life, she enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens, learning and mastering games, reading and truly loved keeping up with all of her extended family tree though Facebook. She was of the Catholic faith and also known throughout Carroll County as the "Tomato Lady" of Hampstead. Surviving is daughter Ellen Marie Powers and husband Joseph of Glyndon, MD; son, Joseph Earl Holbrook, Jr. and wife Joanne of Genesee, PA; sister, Alice Tilton of Raleigh, NC. Also survived by Grandchildren Pamela Brookbank and husband Skip Brookbank of Mechanicsvile, MD; Kimberly Powers of San Diego, CA; Jeffrey Stiff and wife Anne of Manchester, MD; David Stiff of Moreno Valley, CA; Sherry Powers Bovey and husband Steve of Sykesville, MD; Joseph Powers III and wife Susan of Severna Park, MD; Mark Powers and wife Tammy of Hanover, PA; Danny Powers and wife Bonnie of Goose Creek, SC; Sandy Boyd of Hanover, PA; and Joseph E. Holbrook III and wife Wendy of Ulysses, PA. She had a myriad of Great-Grand Children with Ryan Boyd; Ellie, Clara, Sam and Zoe Brookbank; Breanna Fleegle and Brandon Stiff; Hannah and Joseph Holbrook; Emily, Brooke, Jenna, Mikey, and Brent Powers and most recently enjoyed meeting a new Great-Great Grandchild, Parker Fleegle. Niece Jeannie Harris of Hampstead was also very special to her. She was predeceased by sisters Betty Bowman, Margaret L. Jones and brother George Lang. Visitation will be held at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, on Thursday January 8, 2015 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment later in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the , P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
