Ruth Currens Moore, 95, of Sykesville, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Brinton Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sykesville, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Born Nov. 15, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Edgar R. and Daisy Creager Currens. She was the wife of Ernest W. Moore, her husband of 49 years, who died in 1985.

She graduated from Sykesville High School in 1934 and then attended Strayer Business School. She worked at Springfield State Hospital for 25 years in the medical records offices.

After retiring she enjoyed traveling the United States with her friend, Gladys Wright. She celebrated her 80th birthday with her daughters by touring Great Britain. She was a member of Flohrville United Methodist Church, where she served as the church treasurer for many years.

Her most treasured times were spent at her home in Sykesville that she and her husband purchased in 1951. Family, friends, neighbors and co-workers often visited for meals, snacks or a chat.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law Suzanne Moore Ridgley, of Winfield, and Tina and Jeff Maufer, of Sykesville; a former daughter-in-law, Erla "Cis" Whittington; grandchildren Jeff Moore, of Ohio, Dr. Wendy Moore Hildebrandt, of North Carolina, Stephen Moore, of California, and Ken Ridgley, of Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren Morgan Moore, Christian Hildebrandt, and Campbell and Brooks Ridgley.

She was predeceased by a son, William "Bill" Moore; a son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Ridgley; and siblings Margaret Currens Johnson, Mary Currens Lockard, Jean Currens Holman and Edgar "Pete" Currens.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service, 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Rick Nace officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
