Ruth Anderson Galley Stansfield, daughter of Joseph N. and Ola Mae Galley (both deceased) died peacefully on July 23, 2016, at the age of 94, in Sykesville, MD. Ruth was the devoted wife of Robert E. Stansfield, Jr. (deceased); the loving mother of Robert E. Stansfield, IV (Sarah), Kevin Tucker (Collette), Kristin Foley (Mike), Erik Doane, Rebecca Doane (Jacob Andy), Michael Taylor, Jr. (Kim), Matthew Taylor (Kristine), and Melinda Taylor; and the beloved great grandmother of Mellanie and Hollie Gallop, Elizabeth, Andrew and Caroline Stansfield, Calvin and Cameron Tucker, Jack, Katelyn and Lauren Foley, Brian and Joe Sennett, Madison and Katelyn Taylor, and Alex Strehlen. She was the sister of Joseph N. Galley, Jr. (Ora), and F. Peter Galley (Norma Lee) and sister-in-law of Catherine Stansfield Hart (Richard). Ruth was born in Wilkinsburg, PA, and grew up in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated from Western High School and Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing. She found joy in caring for others, especially her elders. She worked as a Registered Nurse for the Glenn L. Martin Company, Frederick Memorial Hospital, and St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, where she retired in 1977. Ruth's life was centered around her love of God and family. She was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City for the last 54 years and devoted herself to the sharing of God's love both at home and abroad. She was also involved in the Grange, the Farm Bureau, and the National Association of County Agents. Ruth, with her husband Bob, enjoyed her retirement years camping across the USA, traveling through Europe, Asia and Africa; and always finding the time to be with family and friends. Ruth loved teaching her grandchildren to play games, especially Pinochle, Hand and Foot, Connect Four, Uno, Rummikub, and Phase 10. She loved to knit, read, swim and entertain. Viewing will be held at Bethany UMC, 2815 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City, MD, on Friday, July 29, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00.
