Sharkey Edward Poole Jr., 50, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.

Born July 12, 1962, in Olney, he was the son of Sharkey E. Sr. and Bertha Burdette Poole. He was the husband of Denise M. Poole, his wife of 31 years.

He had worked 28½ years for Montgomery County Department of Highways, and before retirement was chief foreman at the Damascus Depot. He went on to work seven more years for Montgomery County Public Schools in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, NASCAR, NFL and spending time with his two granddaughters.

Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are children Sharkey E. Poole III and wife Sarah, of Westminster, and Ashley M. Hodge and husband Michael, of Frederick; granddaughters Cadence L. Poole and Nola M. Hodge; sister Patty J. Kusmiskis and husband Richard, of Gaithersburg; and a half-sister Pam Okandy and husband Bob, of Florida.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at  Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boyds Presbyterian Cemetery, 1901 White Grounds Road, Boyds, with the Rev. Merritt Ednie officiating.
