Sharon B. "Bootsie" James, 66, of Laurel, Del., formerly of Westminster, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 19, 1947, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lois Johnston Brown. She was the wife of Jack T. James Jr., who died May 10, 1982.

She worked for Allied Chemical Company as a supervisor for many years. She also enjoyed working for CHANGE Inc. and was well known for her volunteer work in the community. As the former manager at the Cranberry Mall in Westminster, she played Mrs. Santa Claus at Christmas time, starting the tradition of having a Christmas parade in the mall each year.

She enjoyed playing bingo and going to yard sales and liked being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Robert Michael, of Upperco; sons and daughter-in-law Jack T. James III and wife Christy James, of Abbottstown, Pa., and Tommy James, of Westminster; sisters Sue Harris and husband Tom, Linda McGrew and husband Roger, all of Laurel, Cindy Brown, of Hanover, Pa., and Kim and husband Ralph Stoffel, of Melrose; grandchildren Rob, Rick and Jaclyn Michael, Nora Larson, and Lydia, Trent and Victoria; great-grandchildren Robby, Ryleigh and Emmaliegh; niece and nephews Linda Powers, Mike and Billy James, all of Hopewell, Va., and Kurt Knatz and Roger McGrew, of Pennsylvania; and many other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell, where she will be buried with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to CHANGE Inc., 115 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
