Shirley Ann Gist, 82, of Westminster, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Senior Constant Care Assisted Living in Winfield.

Born June 12, 1930, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Mary Elizabeth Thacker Burns. She was the wife of Harry Edward Lyman Gist, who died May 2, 2007.

She had been a bookkeeper for Gist Brothers Concrete. She and her late husband owned the By Chance Gift Shop in Hanover, Pa., for 27 years, where she taught cake decorating and candy making.

She was a member of Clearfield Bible Church and formerly was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She enjoyed oil painting, cooking and baking. She also took care of making the floral arrangements for Clearfield Bible Church. She played the organ and enjoyed being with her family.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Niles Light, of Front Royal, Va.; son and girlfriend Michael Gist and Anita Morgan, of Westminster; grandchildren Matthew and wife Laura Light, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Carrie Light, of Tampa, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Light; and longtime friends Doris and Donald Boone, of North Carolina.

She was predeceased by twin daughters Susan and Sharon Gist; and by siblings Eileen Gregory and Edward Burns.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clearfield Bible Church, 1303 Old Westminster Pike, Westminster, with her grandson, the Rev. Matthew Light, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ray Newman of Clearfield Bible Church. Interment will follow in Deer Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
