Shirley K. Nelson, 81, of Westminster, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born Oct. 28, 1930, in Patapsco, she was the daughter of the late George Cleveland Knight and Myrtle Emma Green Knight. She was the wife of George A. Nelson, her husband of 57 years.

She was a 1948 graduate of Westminster High School. Before retiring she was a telephone operator for C & P for 34 years.

She was a member of St. John (Leister's) Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 897 in Westminster.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are brothers and sisters-in-law Cleveland E. and Judy Knight, of Glen Burnie, and Kenneth W. Knight and Carolyn Knight, both of Taneytown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marvin and Betty Nelson, of New Windsor, Donald and May Nelson, of Stark, Fla., Orval and Doris Nelson, of Frederick, Elmer Nelson and Harold Nelson, of Littlestown, Pa., Richard and Linda Nelson, of Union Bridge, Carol Blubaugh, of Westminster, Wanda and John Waugh, of Lineboro, Yasuko Nelson, of Lincoln, Calif., and Betty Sue Nelson, of Shelby, N.C.; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by sisters Edith A. Knight and Doris I. Dixon; and a brother, Roger D. Knight.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with her pastor, the Rev. Kristen Dubsky officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
