Shirley Marie Kessler, 77, of Westminster, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare Center, where she was a resident.

Born on March 11, 1935, in Lansdowne, she was the daughter of the late John L. Strube Sr. and Marie Weber Strube. She was the wife of Christian "Chris" G. Kessler Jr., who died in 2009.

She was a graduate of Catonsville High School and Towson State Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher and reading specialist in the Baltimore County Public Schools. She enjoyed bowling, listening to music and playing cards with family and friends. She was a member of St. Benjamins (Krider's) Lutheran Church.

Surviving are brother the Rev. John L. Strube Jr.; sister-in-law Janet L. Strube, of Lititz, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Carroll Lutheran Village Krug Chapel.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Schafer officating assisted by Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz and the Rev. Donald Sause. Interment will be at Loudon Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Benjamins (Krider's) Church, 700 Krider's Cemetery Road, Westminster, MD 21158 or to Carroll Lutheran Village Chapel Fund, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.
