Shirley Louise Wiles, age 76, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born April 29, 1941 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late G. Nelson "Pop" and Hazel Martha Beard Dallam. She was the wife of David E. Wiles, her husband of 52 years. Though she stopped working outside of the house once her children were born, she still kept busy. She decorated cakes for every occasion, served as Girl Scout cookie mom, attended field trips, provided daycare for her great nieces and loved needle crafts. In fact, if you are reading this today and really knew Shirley, there is probably an afghan or quilt or some other hand made gift in your house made with love. Family and friends almost came to expect that their gift when they got married would be an afghan from Aunt Shirley. In later years, she began to gain interest in quilting. She often had her craft bags packed and in the car no matter if she was heading to spend time with her grandchildren or going to spend a week or two in one of her favorite places - Chincoteague Island. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Martha L. Burdette and husband Wayne of New Windsor, Donna W. Chalmers and husband Michael of Pittsville; grandchildren, Emma and Albert Burdette of New Windsor, Charles, Maxton and Allison Chalmers of Pittsville. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth E. Crist. Shirley's memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our "tribute wall" at www.hartzlerfuneralhome.com.
