Steve Morelock died of natural causes on August 29, 2017 at 100 years of age. He was born October 12, 1916 on his family farm Meadow Branch in Westminster, Maryland. Steve was a hard worker from an early age, with a soft spot for animals. As a boy, he helped out with the farm work, feeding and caring for their pets and farm animals and raising Percheron horses. He also had a pet fox named Petey. He met his darling, whip-smart wife, Jean Dorothy Herrick, at Camp Edwards 4H camp. They married in 1940 in Ashaway, Rhode Island at Jean's family home. They had a son, Stephen Karl, in 1944. Steve also served in the Army during WWII, helping to recover American servicemen's remains overseas. Steve left the farm and joined the aviation and aerospace industry. He designed and fabricated tools for repairing aircraft and worked on the secret Stealth Bomber project at Glenn L. Martin in Maryland. Like so many others, Steve and his young family moved out west to California in 1948. Continuing to work in his industry, he helped with projects including the U-2, SR-71 Blackbird, and the early space shuttles at Lockheed Martin in Burbank and Edwards Airforce Base near Lancaster. Steve was an insatiably curious and industrious guy who threw himself into projects by the score. He was an avid reader, home gardener, model builder and photographer, who travelled the world and regaled his family with keen observations from his exciting excursions. He was handsome and quick to smile and laugh. He loved to tell jokes and recite limericks. Steve and Jean had a long and loving 73 year marriage. His beloved Jean passed away in 2013 at 91 years old. Steve is survived by his 99 year old sister, Elinor Morelock Hull, son, Stephen Karl, former daughter-in-law, Kathy Weiner (Ted), grandchildren Karen Amore-Mueller (William), Kris Morelock (Leah), Kraig Morelock (Theresa), great grandchildren Carlo (Arlene), Diana, Fred, Hadley, Kanan, Mikayla (Heath), Ricky and Trent, great-great grandchildren Brielle, Emerie and Jasmine and nephews John "Jay" Hull II (Ilona) and David Hull (Patti) and nieces Martha Sweeney and Libby Hull-Jerome (Allan), great nephews Daniel Hull (Katie), Benjamin Hull, Lucas Hull, great nieces Jacqueline Hull, Heather Hull Whirley (Chip) and Ginger Hull and Kate Jerome. A private family memorial will be held in Burbank. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The National Alliance on Mental Illness ( or The Cousteau Society (, if you are so inclined.
