Sterling Yudel Clabaugh, age 90, of Keymar, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Kline Hospice House, near New Market, after a brief illness. Born August 6, 1927 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Harry Emerson Clabaugh and Genevieve Beal Clabaugh. He was the husband of Elaine Haines Clabaugh, his loving wife of 63 years. Mr. Clabaugh was a 1944 graduate of Walkersville High School and was a lifelong dairy farmer. In his younger years he was a 4-H leader. Sterling was a member of the Frederick County Farm Bureau and a life member of the New Midway Volunteer Fire Company where he enjoyed helping with the suppers and banquets for more than 20 years. He was an active, life member of Mt. Zion (Haugh's) Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council for numerous terms, was Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, member of the cemetery board and served as cemetery superintendent for 30 years. Sterling loved to play cards with his friends, liked to dance and was a member of the Woodsboro Dance Club for more than 50 years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Greg Clabaugh and wife Loree, Brian Clabaugh, and Cindy Selby and husband Mike, all of Keymar; four grandchildren, Bryce Selby and wife Emily, Alyssa, Dalton and Connor Clabaugh; sisters-in-law, Viola Haines and LaWanda Haines; nephews, Rodney Martz and Mike Haines and nieces, Candy Bohrer, Melody Schaeffer, Kathy Keith, Bonnie Kreamer and Susie Sanders. He was preceded in death by sister, Wilhelmina Martz and brothers-in-law, Russell Martz, Lawrence and Ray Haines. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, at Haugh's Lutheran Church, 11504 Haugh's Church Road, with Rev. Parris Beckhardt, former pastor, officiating. Private inurnment will be in Haugh's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
