Sterling E. Walsh, Sr., 83, of Hampstead, died Sunday October 26, 2014 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born August 28, 1931 in Snydersburg, he was the son of the late Charles Carroll and Bessie Rill Walsh. He was the husband of Gladys Tracey Walsh, his wife of 62 years. He was the founder and former owner of Greenmount Fuel Company. He was a founder and broker for Glen Falls Realty, retiring in 2008. He was a past president of the Carroll County Board of Realtors and a past recipient of the Realtor of the Year Award. He was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was a member of the A.A.C.A. and former member of its board of directors and was a charter member and three-time past president of the Gettysburg Region. He was also a member of the Chesapeake Region, the Sugarloaf Mountain Region and The Horseless Carriage Club. He was instrumental in the founding of the A.A.C.A. Museum in Hershey, Pa. He was also a member of the Maryland Steam Historical Society and the Mason Dixon Steam Historical Society. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law, Celeste and Bruce Woodring of Upperco; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Sterling E., Jr. and Janet Walsh of York, Pa.; grandchildren, Kristen Haegerich, Jordan Haegerich and his wife Alyssa, Sterling E. Walsh, III, Nathan Walsh, Esther Walsh, Hannah Jaggard and her husband Steven; sisters and brother-in-law, Julia and J. L. Gouge of Hampstead and Marie Treadway of Dunwoody, Ga. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles H. Walsh and Carroll L. Walsh. The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 3100 Shiloh Road, Hampstead with the Rev. Barbara Allen and Dr. Sterling E. Walsh, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Shiloh United Methodist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 3100 Shiloh Road, Hampstead, MD 21074 or to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5005 Carlisle Road, Dover, PA 17315.
