Sterling Wilson Fritz, 96, of Taneytown, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born Dec. 8, 1915, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Phaylan and Anna Shuey Fritz. He was the husband of Mary Katherine Myerly Fritz, who died in 1991.
He founded Fritz' Radio and TV Sales & Service in Taneytown in 1957, and remained active in the business until two years ago. He was known to be a spiritual man and life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.
He enjoyed bowling and bowled in the Professional Duckpin League in Baltimore for several years. He was a member of the Professional Duckpin Bowlers Association. He was a life-member of the Taneytown volunteer fire company. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.
Surviving are son Leon Fritz and wife Joan, of Taneytown; brothers Melvin Fritz and wife Dot, of Taneytown, and Earl Fritz and wife Lib, of Union Bridge; a grandson, Brian Fritz, of Taneytown; great-granddaughters Brandy and Misty Fritz, both of Taneytown; and great-great grandchildren Caydan Friese and Savanah Linthicum.
He was predeceased by sisters Catherine Feeser, and Pauline "Polly" Boone; and a brother, Preston Fritz.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, where the Taneytown volunteer fire company will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Josh Semovoski, of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
