Steven Anthony Schaffer, 62, of Hanover, Pa., died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at his home.

Born July 30, 1951, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of the late Andrew and Filomena Apuzzo Schaffer. He was the husband of Kathryn Schaffer, his wife of 41 years.

He worked for the NRC in the research dept. He received his doctorate in Environmental Medicine from New York University. He was a former member of the Freedom District Lions Club and most recently was a member of HAPHS. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and was looking forward to the arrival of another this fall. His hobbies and favorite things included windsurfing, fishing, boating and spending time with family and friends at the family's beach home.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Carianne Judge and husband James, and Sharon Scarborough and husband Michael; sons Scott and Casey Schaffer; sisters Vivienne DeSimone and husband Vincent, and Andrea Maisel and husband Richard; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service was held Saturday. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
