Stirling Wharton Ruth, 86, of Westminster, formerly of Lutherville passed away November 10, 2017 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born on September 7, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wharton and Evelyn Margarite (Curry) Ruth. Stirling was the husband of Shirley Barrett Ruth who predeceased him on July 7, 2017. They were married for 57 years. Stirling was a Graduate of Strayer Business School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951-1955. He spent three years in England during the Korean War. Stirling worked for CSX Corporation for 36 years as a Tariff Compiler. He liked religious music, studied piano and organ and was an avid reader. Stirling played the organ at Westminster Baptist Church for 10 years and had previously played for Lee Street Baptist church in Baltimore for 18 years. Surviving him is his aunt Jane Leffel; nieces Patricia and Carol and sister-in-law Donna Barrett. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, with his pastor, Rev. Larry Steen and Carroll Lutheran Village Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz officiating. Interment will be in West Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, White Hall, MD.
