Susan Eugenia "Susie" Butler, 62, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Oct. 6, 1951, in Mount Airy, she was the daughter of the late John William Gartrell Sr. and Doris Eugenia Brandenburg Gartrell. She was the wife of Edward "Eddie" A. Butler.

She was retired from the United States Postal Service. She had worked in the Mount Airy Post Office for 26 years. Years ago she had worked for the former Dixon's Flowers in Sykesville and Mount Airy Cut Flowers in Mount Airy. Susie was known by her grandchildren as "Oma."

She enjoyed flower arranging, animals, gospel bluegrass music and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Jeffrey Ferguson, of Sykesville; daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie and Ronnie Miller, of Westminster, Tina and Billy Brosenne, of Union Bridge, and Kaye and John Saracino, of Westminster; brothers and sisters-in-law John W. Jr. and Shirley Gartrell, of Romney, West Virginia, and Thomas H. and Sandy Gartrell, of Winfield; a nephew, Jimmy Gartrell, of McSherrystown, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon until the time of service, 1 p.m. Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Roger Rich. Interment will follow in Westminster Cemetery in Westminster.
