Sylvia Irene Dells-Hoff, age 76, of Flohrville, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born December 25, 1941 in Oakland Mills (Carroll County), she was the daughter of the late William A.T. Dells and Catherine M. Herche-Dells. She was the wife of the late David S. Hoff, Jr., whom she married at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church on November 17, 1962. She attended Sykesville School from the 1st grade and graduated from Sykesville High School in 1960. From 1985 until present, she was a member of the Reunion Committee, serving as secretary. After graduation she worked for Union Trust Bank in Reisterstown and Sykesville State Bank in Sykesville. From 1964-1976 she worked as the secretary to the Social Services Department at Henryton Center. In 1976, she worked for the Howard County ARC in Columbia as secretary. In 1980 she went to work for Centers for the Handicapped in Silver Spring as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, where she worked until her retirement in December 1991. From 1995 until 2014 when it was sold, she worked as the Secretary/Treasurer for Water Express, the family owned swimming pool water delivery business. She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, needle crafts, ceramics and working in her flower garden. She was an avid cat lover who loved her tuxedo cat Starr (Baby Girl), and she loved to dance. In addition, she enjoyed sitting on her sun porch in the morning having coffee, watching hummingbirds and other garden birds in her backyard. Surviving is son Michael David Hoff and his significant other Dianna Stafford of Flohrville; cousins Dorothy Haynes of Clover, SC, sister-in-law Sandy Dells of Sykesville and nephew John Dells of Marriottsville, and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Charles W. Dells. She was the granddaughter of the late William O. and Susie King Dells and Charles A. and Marguerite Schlicker Herche. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville with Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. Interment in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. Friends may call on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Carroll County, The William H. Kahlert Regional Cancer, Attn: Flavio Kruter M.D., or to the .
