Thelma F. Gross, 102, of New Windsor, MD, formerly of Round Mountain, TX, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Westminster. Born in 1913 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Louis F. and Magdalena B. Fries. She was the wife of the late Howard M. Gross, her husband of 57 years. She was a graduate of Towson High School, attended Towson State Teachers College (now Towson University) and received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland. Her graduate studies included courses at the University of California, Loyola College of Maryland , and culminated with an Masters of Education Degree from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). She taught reading and art in 1st through 8th grades of schools in California, Colorado, and Baltimore County, MD, retiring in 1971 after 40 years of service. Shortly thereafter she and her husband moved to Round Mountain, TX, where they operated a sheep ranch for 20 years. After his death she returned to Maryland. Surviving are brother-in-law Raymond Gross; niece Patricia Parks; nephews Darius Gross, Mark Gross, Charles Gross, Frederick Gross and their families; cousin Theodore R. Koons, Jr. and family; devoted friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by a sister Buehla A. Evaniak, and a brother Louis F. Fries, Jr. There will be no viewing and after cremation a private memorial service will be held at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster MD 21157.
