Thomas Robert Smith, 89, formerly of Woodstock, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Future Care-Cherrywood in Reisterstown.

Born May 27, 1922, in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Richard C. and Mary Kay Black Smith. He was the husband of the late Genevieve Sylvia Smith. He was a friend and companion to Phyllis Brown.

He was in the Army from 1943 until 1945. He was a self-employed transmission mechanic.

He was a member of the American Legion Owings Mills Post No. 122. He was a member of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed baseball, football, horses and trips to Florida.

Surviving are children Robert Timothy Smith and wife Linda, of Sykesville, and Kay Bowen and husband Tim, of Reisterstown; a sister, Rose Butkus; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Richard Hooper Smith and Russell Leonard Smith.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Luther Starnes officiating. Interment will be in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore.
