Vernon Clinton "Bud" Shearer Sr., 75, of Manchester, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born July 8, 1937, in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Carroll and Hilda Wilhelm Shearer. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Edward and Adie Wilhelm. He was the husband of Joan Ruby Shearer, his wife of 57 years.

He drove a tractor and trailer for most of his life, was employed by Western Auto for more than 18 years, and later became an owner-operator driving for Shelter Systems and Robins Trucking.

After retiring, he enjoyed time with his family, camping at River Bend and meeting friends for coffee each morning at the Mini-Mart. August was his favorite time of the year as his family gathered for steamed crabs to celebrate another year of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Kathy and George Hayes; a son, Vernon Shearer Jr.; a sister, Betty Hale; grandchildren Tara and Brian Benicewicz, Daniel Shearer and Nicholas Shearer; and great-grandchildren Sidney, Taylor and Carter Benicewicz.

There will be no public visitation.

A graveside service for immediate family will be officiated by the Rev. Melvina Stricklin of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157; or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dover and Trenton roads, Upperco, MD 21155.
