Virginia Carr Lavin, 92, of Huntsville, Ala., died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at home.

Born Jan. 13, 1921, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Etta Olive Johnson. She was the wife of the late Col. John J. Lavin, whom she married Dec. 24, 1941.

She enjoyed her life as an Army wife, and lived in places including Anchorage, Alaska, and Izmir, Turkey. She moved to Huntsville in 2004 and became an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Surviving are children Tom and Gayle Lavin, of Huntsville, Patty and Bill Gerhards, of Dunedin, Fla., and Michael and Susan Lavin, of Conifer, Colo.; grandchildren Heidi Gerhards, of McClean, Va., William and Laura Gerhards and their son Zachary, of Brooksville, Fla., Stephanie and Ed Hall, of Buford, Ga., and Chris Lavin, of Huntsville; brother Sterling Carr and his family, of Westminster; and other extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by a brother, Peyton Carr.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave., Huntsville, with Dr. Bill Etheridge officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
