Virginia Lee Downing Reese, age 93, of Westminster, died Friday, July 1, 2016 at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center. Born April 28, 1923 in Hebron, MD, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Ellis Downing. She was the wife of Richard R. Reese who died in 2001. Mrs. Reese graduated from Salisbury State Teachers College and received her master's degree from Western Maryland College. She was employed for 35 years with the Carroll County Board of Education, 23 years as an elementary school teacher and 12 years as an assistant principal, retiring in 1982. Ginny was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church and a retired member of CCEA. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and golf, gourmet cooking and spending winters in Florida until her husband's death. Surviving are 2 sons, Richard H. Reese and wife Jean of Baltimore and Michael L. Reese and wife Darlene of Westminster; 6 grandchildren, Richard H. Reese Jr., Thomas Lee Reese and wife Robin, Victoria Ann Miller and husband Frank, Cynthia Louise Pheabus and husband Bruce, Adam Michael Reese and wife Jennifer and Philip Andrew Reese and wife Kathleen; 8 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at Krug Chapel, Carroll Lutheran Village, with Rev. Jimmie Schwartz, chaplain of CLV, officiating. Private interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. There will be no public visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Resident Assistance Fund, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.
