Walter Edwin Franklin, 84, of Union Bridge, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at home.

Born Dec. 2, 1928, in Marston, he was the son of the late Paul Edwin and Mabel Cook Franklin. He was the husband of Carolyn LaRue Lindsey Franklin, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on March 6.

He took over Catawba Farm at the corner of Clemsonville Road and Md. 31 in 1963 as a dairyman. In 1973 he and his wife started beef farming and retired in 1989.

He was a member of Linganore United Methodist Church and attended Johnsville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Maryland Mule and Draft Horse Association, Carroll County Farm Museum and was a former director of the Western Maryland Ayrshire Association. He enjoyed walking, gardening and watching bull riding.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Kathy Franklin Baldwin and husband Eric, of Upper Holland, Pa.; and grandchildren Amanda Elizabeth "Libby" Baldwin and Thomas Taylor Baldwin.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ethel Inskeep, who died in 1995.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dwight Sheesley, former pastor of Johnsville United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Michael Leftwich, former pastor of Linganore United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery in Dennings.
