Walter Lee Stebbings, 85, of Hampstead, formerly of Owings Mills, died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2014, at his daughter's home.

Born May 30, 1928, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Delbert and Florence Baker Stebbings. He was the husband of Jean A. Taylor Stebbings, who died in May 1996.

He was a veteran of the Maryland National Guard. For more than 47 years he was employed as the storeroom operator of the B&O Railroad. He enjoyed bargain shopping, visiting museums and the Reisterstown Senior Center, watching parades, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.

Surviving are children and spouses Daniel W. and Angela Stebbings, of New Freedom, Pa., Kevin T. Stebbings, of Westminster, Kathy J. and David Pangborn, of Hampstead, and Kimberly H. and Mike Sauerwald, of Leonardtown; brothers and spouses William and Jenny Stebbings, Robert and Nora Stebbings, and Gilbert Stebbings, all of Baltimore; a sister, June Caudill, of Glen Burnie; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Stebbings; a sister-in-law, Veronica Stebbings; and a brother-in-law, Aaron Caudill.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with his grandson, Carlo Stebbings, officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
