Warren Rymer Matthews, 70, of Westminster, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at University Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1941, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Matthews and Joan Warren Rymer Matthews. He was the husband of Bettye Joan Hoff Matthews.

He had worked as a fire officer for Prince Georges County until he retired. He then attended the University of Maryland in College Park, where he majored in industrial technology in the College of Education. He then worked in various energy fields designing leadership programs for private utility companies.

He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1619. He enjoyed reading, traveling and genealogy.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and son-in-laws Sharon L. and David Eckenrode, of Westminster, and Sandra L. and Thom Sewell, of Texas; sister and brother-in-law Susan J. and John Lauer, of Southport, N.C.; grandchildren Amanda L. McGee and husband Micah, Steven M. Reightler, Lindsey N. Broz and husband Joseph, Madison and Victoria Sewell; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
