Mr. Wilbur Maurice Warner, age 93, formerly of Johnsville, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Somerford Assisted Living in Frederick. Born August 4, 1922 in Johnsville, he was the son of the late Maurice and Allie Boone Warner. Mr. Warner was a 1940 graduate of Liberty High School, Libertytown. He joined R.W. Warner in 1956 and was employed most of his life with his brother, Reese, doing plumbing and heating service work until retiring in 1993. Following retirement he enjoyed looking after Hereford cattle for Reese and later Brown Swiss cattle for his nephew, Bill Warner, on his small farm. Wilbur was a longtime member of Johnsville United Methodist Church and later joined St. Peter's Catholic Church, Libertytown. He was a charter member of the Johnsville Ruritan Club where he served as secretary for 26 years and also served as secretary to the district and zone governors. In October 1993 he received the Tom Downing Fellow Award for outstanding service. He fried chicken for many years for local churches, Lions Clubs, Fire Companies and Austin Bohn sales. He was a member of the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Co., the Johnsville Senior Citizens and enjoyed bus trips with them. Wilbur was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. He had been a resident of Somerford in Frederick since 2006. Surviving are nephew, Dr. Larry J. Warner and wife Nicky of Frederick; niece-in-law, Cynthia Warner of Frederick; great nieces and nephews, Shawn Warner of Myersville, Heather Templeton and husband John of Asheville, NC, Matthew Warner and wife Marybeth of Frederick, Dr. Jody Warner-Rogers and husband Marcus of Walton-on-Thames, England, Dr. Michael Warner and wife Hollie of Frederick and David Warner and wife Jackie of Great Falls, VA and 18 great grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Mary Jo Warner in 1993, brother, Reese W. Warner in 1996, and nephew, Reese W. "Bill" Warner Jr. in 2007. The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Somerford Assisted Living and Hospice of Frederick County. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
