Willem H. Van Aller, 80, of White Hall, formerly a long term resident of Woodbine, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, after a brief illness and complications of dementia.

He was the husband of Phyllis Van Aller.

He enjoyed farming and was active with draft horses. For years he provided horse and wagon rides at various Carroll County park events at Piney Run and Hashawha.

His other hobbies included amateur radio, beekeeping, model airplanes, and railroads. At an early age he became interested in radio, and decided to make it his career. He trained as an electronics engineer at Antioch College in the 1950s and helped develop communications systems for the Apollo space program as a subcontractor to NASA in the 1960s at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Hal Van Aller, of Queenstown; and daughter Katrina Van Aller,  of Sacramento, Calif.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Wiseburg United Methodist Church, 810 Wiseburg Road, White Hall.
