William Aloysius Sapp, Jr., 83, of Eldersburg, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, after suffering a massive stroke.

Born April 30, 1931, in Catonsville, he was the son of the late William Aloysius Sapp Sr. and the late Lottie Abbot Sapp. He was the husband of Rosemary R. Singleton Sapp, his wife of 60 years.

He was a 1949 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Baltimore.

He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served in the Korean War. He started his employment at the age of 18 in the savings and loan industry as a teller at Baltimore Federal. He was the president and chief executive officer of Century Savings and Loan by the age of 34.

He served as president of the Maryland Savings and Loan League and was a member of the Board of Directors of SE Conference S & L League. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Community for 46 years. He was a member of Knight of Columbus No. 7612. He had served as a member of the Homebuilders Society and had also served as president of Sykesville Little League.

He was an avid Orioles, Notre Dame and Ravens fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children William A. Sapp III and wife Constance, Edward J. Sapp, Terri DeCenzo and husband David, Richard G. Sapp and wife Joanne, Rosemarie A. Carlyle and husband Mark, and Kevin M. Sapp and wife Julie; grandchildren the Rev. Philip R. Hurley SJ, Julianna Sapp, William A. Sapp IV, Nicholas and Beth Sapp, Alexander Sapp, Genevieve and Chris Acker, Mark and Jen DeCenzo, Meredith, Gabriella, and Natalie DeCenzo, Kirsten and Kelsey Sapp, Cameron and Nathan Carlyle, Kevin Sapp Jr., and Thomas and Brendan Sapp; great-grandchildren Evangeline Acker, Peyton Blum and Nicolas Sapp Jr.; a sister, Charlotte Sapp Buschman; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a fund being established in his name at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784.
