William Ernest Myers, age 95, of Westminster, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Country Acres Assisted Living. Born November 14, 1921 in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Norman and Reba Stremmel Myers. He was the husband of Irene M. Myers who died in 2009. Bill was a 1939 graduate of New Windsor High School and attended Western Maryland College where he was in the ROTC program, serving with the "Maryland Minute Men" in the 649th Company Reserve Militia. With the declaration of war, he enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served with the 448th Bomb Group of Seething, England as a tailgunner in a B-24. In 2003 Bill authored "Achtung! Noon Balloon", memoirs of his flight crew. After the war Bill attended the Baltimore College of Commerce. He was employed as an accountant with the Community Chest of Baltimore, then became the comptroller with Baltimore City Housing. He later was a self-employed accountant. He was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church, New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., was an officer with Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Co. and was a life member of Westminster Volunteer Fire Co., serving as treasurer. In 1930 Bill played the clarinet in the New Windsor Boys Band and continued as a 65-year member of the Westminster Municipal Band, also serving as treasurer. He was a "Golden Member" of the V.F.W. of Westminster and the 29th Division Association. He was a former member of the Forest and Stream Club, Detour. He enjoyed photography, attending the grandchildren's activities and traveling, especially to reunions with his flight crew members. Surviving are daughter, Pamela A. Lindsay and husband Larry of Westminster; son, William D. Myers of Westminster; 6 grandchildren, Grant Lindsay and wife Beth, Abby Carey and husband Bradley, Matthew Myers, Aaron Myers and wife Tiffany, and Benjamin and Samuel Sullivan; 3 great grandchildren, Brooke I. Lindsay, Raegan E. Lindsay and Dylan J. Myers and son-in-law, James Sullivan of Ashburn, VA. He was predeceased by an infant son in 1953, daughter, Patricia I. Sullivan in 2010 and daughter-in-law, Ann C. Myers in 2010. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with Rev. Robert Wellman, pastor of Sandymount United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Uniontown Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, January 18. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Municipal Band, P.O.
