William Edwin "Jake" Powder, 76, of Sykesville, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville.

Born July 25, 1936, in Gamber, he was the son of the late William Franklin and Hester M. Edmondson Powder. He was the husband of Frances Louise Bollinger Powder, his wife of 56 years.

He had retired as a technical coordinator with Fairlanes. He was a life member of the Sykesville Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, particularly making furniture and vintage toys. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening and especially spending time with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and daughter-in-law Gregory E. and Ginger Powder, of Sykesville; daughters and sons-in-law Cathy M. and Ronnie Price, of Upperco, and Kimberly L. and Anthony Martinelli, of Sykesville; a son-in-law, Jesse Price, of Hanover, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law James G. "Dutch" and Linda Powder, of Sykesville; sister and brother-in-law M. Jean and Don Brolliar, of Sykesville; grandchildren Todd Price, Cami Miller, Courtney Stigler, Casey Work, and Mary and Alex Martinelli; great-grandchildren Riley and Peyton Stigler, and Ava and Kai Work; and five step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Jean Price, in 2004; and a sister, Mary Lee Powder.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Work officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery in Gamber.
