William E. Serra, 88, of Sykesville, formerly of Baltimore, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Aug. 26, 1924, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Settimo G. Serra and the late Ginevra A. Ruini Serra.

He had worked as a bookkeeper for the railroad and later worked for the family restaurant at Serra Brothers. He was an Army veteran and received two Purple Hearts.

He had been active at St. William of York Church in Baltimore before moving to Sykesville. He was a baseball fan and enjoyed going to the horse track, playing cards and spending time with family.

Surviving are nephew and wife John and Barbara Serra; great-nephew John Serra and wife, and sons Jackie, Gunnar and Colton; great-nephew James Serra and wife Laura; and numerous other family members.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Catholic Prayers, 11 a.m. Saturday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield. Interment will be in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore.
