William Ray "Bill" Ecker, age 78, of Westminster, MD, died Sunday, May 15th, 2016 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Bill was born December 12, 1937 in Uniontown, MD, the son of the late William Donald Ecker and the late Marcie Elizabeth Sayler. Bill dedicated his life to education, serving in the Carroll County Public Schools from 1960 - 1984 in various positions such as teacher, high school basketball coach, principal, administrator, counselor, principal, and director of Supervision and Staff development; Superintendent of Schools in Caroline County from 1984 - 1991; lobbyist in Annapolis for the Educational Consortiums and adjunct professor at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel). He also focused on equity per-pupil funding across Maryland. He was a noted humorous, motivational speaker in Maryland. Bill is in the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame and was a valuable contributor to Carroll County sports. He was an avid athlete, grandfather and reader. Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia Henning Ecker, daughter Jodi Ecker Detjen and husband Michael; daughter Terri Ecker Guy and husband Jerome; son Timothy Scott Ecker and wife Yaketa; and seven grandchildren, Sam, Ce'yonnie, Vincent, Eric, Alex, Chris, and Chosen. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be from 1:30 - 3 with a service at 3pm this Saturday, May 21st at the Westminster Church of Brethren, 1 Park Place, Westminster, MD, 21157. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westminster Church of the Brethren or the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL, 33131.
