William F. "Bill" Austin Jr., 75, of Mount Airy, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at home after a long battle with cancer.

Born June 20, 1937, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William Austin Sr. and Edna Marie Redman Austin. He was the husband of Gloria "Jean" Cowden Austin, his wife of 48 years.

He spent most of his adult life in insurance and real estate sales and management, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed yard work, and following his children's and grandsons' school activities and sports. He enjoyed traveling, eating out, and time with his extended family and friends. He was an avid Redskins fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Sherri Austin Beachley and husband Darren, of Brunswick; son William "Billy" Austin III and wife Dana Austin, of Myersville; sisters-in-law Mary Burgess and JoAnn Edmonds; many nieces and nephews, including nephew Harry "Buzz" Williams; grandsons Bryan, Connor, Brady and Kai; and a twin sister, Patricia Kopppen.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sarah Dorrance officiating. Interment will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville.
